Renato ("Michael") Amato research project

Dr Sally Hill (Senior Lecturer in Italian at Victoria University of Wellington) is working on a research project on the life and works of Italian New Zealand writer Renato (known as “Michael”) Amato (1928-1964), who was born in Potenza, studied in Turin and worked in Naples and Rome before moving to New Zealand in 1954.
Sally’s research looks at what immigration to New Zealand meant for Renato Amato, particularly in terms of questions of cultural identity and how he made the change from writing in Italian to English. She would love to hear from anyone who remembers him. If you are able to help, please contact her on 463 5298, email: sally.hill@vuw.ac.nz or by phoning Nina Cuccurullo on 463 5293 or 383 7142 (evenings). And here is the rest of it.

Lorenzo Buhne on National Radio

4:10 pm Saturday 26 September and 8:06 pm Friday 02 October.

Musical Chairs featuring Lorenzo Buhne - From Punk to Poetry
Produced by Sonia Yee for Radio New Zealand National

Sonia Yee meets up with a legend from the LA punk scene. Lorenzo Buhne spent much of his career touring the world as the bass player for 80s LA punk bands The Dickies and FEAR.

In 2003 Lorenzo made the shift to New Zealand. It's a far cry from his previous rock n roll lifestyle, but after decades on the road, he has no regrets about moving to New Zealand. Leaving the hectic LA scene has given him the opportunity to explore his italian musical heritage, without leaving his punk roots behind.
