Renato ("Michael") Amato research project

Dr Sally Hill (Senior Lecturer in Italian at Victoria University of Wellington) is working on a research project on the life and works of Italian New Zealand writer Renato (known as “Michael”) Amato (1928-1964), who was born in Potenza, studied in Turin and worked in Naples and Rome before moving to New Zealand in 1954.
Sally’s research looks at what immigration to New Zealand meant for Renato Amato, particularly in terms of questions of cultural identity and how he made the change from writing in Italian to English. She would love to hear from anyone who remembers him. If you are able to help, please contact her on 463 5298, email: sally.hill@vuw.ac.nz or by phoning Nina Cuccurullo on 463 5293 or 383 7142 (evenings). And here is the rest of it.
